Sick Visits Q & A

What is a sick visit?

A sick visit is a special appointment that focuses on a particular set of symptoms. Your child may be running a fever, have a serious ear infection, or be coughing uncontrollably.

Sick visits are reserved for when your child could benefit from care within 24 hours but isn’t suffering a potentially life-threatening illness or injury. Those catastrophic instances require an emergency room (ER) visit.

What common conditions may require a sick visit?

Dr. Kayass provides comprehensive care for many of your child’s unexpected health issues. Some of the most common conditions that benefit from a sick visit to Tots N Teens Pediatrics include:

  • Flu complications
  • Upper respiratory infection
  • Urinary tract infection
  • Sinus infection
  • Strep throat
  • Fever and chills
  • Dehydration, nausea, and vomiting

Dr. Kayass can diagnose and treat minor illnesses, so your child gets back to feeling better.

When should I schedule a sick visit for my child?

Symptoms in children can be alarming. Don’t assume you’re overreacting and can treat them at home. You’d much rather be safe and get your child the care they need.

Make an appointment for a sick visit with Dr. Kayass if you notice your child has:

  • A chronic, flemmy cough
  • Severe throat pain
  • Difficulty urinating
  • Vomiting or diarrhea
  • Dehydration
  • Prolonged fever or infants with a temperature over 102℉
  • Flu-like symptoms (fever, body aches)

You should also schedule a sick visit if you’re having difficulty managing your chronic illness, like asthma or diabetes.

What can I expect during a sick visit?

Dr. Kayass provides comprehensive care when you bring your child to one of the offices for a sick visit. In addition to reviewing your symptoms, he also conducts a physical exam to assess your child’s overall health.

He may also recommend specific tests to evaluate further your health, such as blood work, spirometry to assess lung health, or an electrocardiogram (EKG) to check the heart.

Your child receives an individualized treatment plan that might include antibiotics, a visit with a specialist, or a special diet.

Help your child feel better fast. Call Tots N Teens Pediatrics, or schedule a sick visit online right away.
